Leo in Astrology

Now we finally reached the next fire sign of the zodiac, Leo. Leos share their element with Aries but their modality with Taurus. Leos are similar to Aries, but fixed nature makes them less prone to wanderlust and reckless moves. Fire nature is much more controlled and focused in the second sign of that element. That gives Leos their dignified lion like demeanor.

Leos are essentially evolved version of Aries, adopted to social conditions and winning power not by conquest and discovery but by charisma and ability to appeal to people. The same could be said of Virgo, Libra and Scorpio who are all evolved version of Taurus, Gemini and Cancer respectively. Leo beings the second astrological quartet: administers the society, build by the first one. Virgo fulfills role of assistant craftsman and servant; Libra is a judge, negotiator and sometimes accountant; finally, Scorpio is guard and policeman.

In agricultural world it is still too early to reap the harvest but crops already close to maturity. End of summer is often time for various celebrations, feasts and so on. Among other thing it's time for young men and women to get themselves out there and find love.

Astrologers often call Leos natural leaders and ascribe many flattering traits to them. After Cancers united different people around them with their caring nature, there is now a vacancy for someone to lead them.

Leos indeed have certain charisma that will allow them to be leaders. Specifically, charisma to win approval of people around them.

Leos are the type of leaders that gets voted for in a democratic system. Popular with those whom they lead and elevated to this position of authority by their vote (formal or informal). I will explain what I mean with an example from my life.

One of my best friends is a Leo and from spending time with him I did notice just how well he manages to read the room and then present himself is a way that will make people like him. It's almost psychic ability to guess what any given crowd will approve of.

There is certain dishonesty to that too. He can be all charm and cozy with one group, then go and denounce them in most disparaging terms in front of a crowd who dislikes the first group. As CGPGrey stated in his Rules for Rulers video: your policy and views does not have to make sense, it has to keep keys to power happy. Leos are people who can pull this off instinctively from young age. Natural politicians.

These leadership tendencies do extend to other areas in life. In workplace Leos likely be popular with colleagues, creating push on upper managers to actually elevate them to team leaders and such. Even without formal title and authority they often have undue influence in workplace.

They can be informal leaders in circle of friends as well. How that will look in practice will depend on the groups.

Leos reflect the people whom they lead, not push their authority and views on them, like for example Capricorn or even Aquarius. Leos do get painted by the people around them a lot more than the other way around. That is why I called this type of leadership democratic.

Aside from leadership, Leos like all sorts of attention. If not, leader they will want to be an actor, singer or someone who gets to be in front of people. This attention seeking too can get the best out of Leos if they did not get any opportunities to shine in one way or another.

To pair up with their ambition, Leos have a lot of energy to work on achieving their objectives. As employees they are rather productive and work hard to win recognition from managers and colleagues. It is good to have them on a team as they will often do the lion share of work, allowing others to take it easy. However, if there are two Leos they might end up competing who contributed more and there will be drama.

Broadly speaking any career that allows for public acclaim will suit Leos. In contrast a work with no recognition and acknowledgement will eventually make them restless and destructive.

Dating wise Leo males are about as popular as Aries is. Possibly even more as Aries is more assertive and will kick back and move on if they are not getting the response they want. In contrast Leos more likely to work and prove themselves to object of their affection. They too however have standards and will not go too far or fall too low for the girl.

Overall, however Leos are the types of women like. Sure, nothing will guarantee 100% get anyone rate. There will always be someone who dislikes you for one or another reason, but male Leo and Aries sure have it easier than others.

Female Leos are in a very peculiar position. On one hand Leo is masculine sign, and females will have difficulties with it. On the other hand, female Leo is best of all signs when it comes to reaching the socially approved standards of beauty. Female Leos are both willing and able to get out of their way to look like a photo model. That will make them envy and admiration of many people around them.

Lack of femininity however will turn away certain types of men, who care about feminine qualities and personality more than about looks. Female Leos can find themselves with many admirers, showering them with flowers and gifts, yet with that one guy they actually like looking the other way and not heeding them at all.

Certain types of men are prideful and would not want a female who eclipses them in every aspect of life. I know that as I am one of them. Women are meant to be of a supporting character.

When it comes to social structures, Leos make a certain turning point. First 3 signs were all self-absorbed in their passions and agendas. To certain extend Cancer is also like that, a be it that their agenda is to be nice to people and get people together.

After these 4 Leo marks a turning point with their focus on society and popular approval by it and within it. Next three signs of Virgo, Libra and Scorpio is also more society focused than the first 4. It does not mean they are extroverted and like company of people like Cancer does. What it means instead that they think in context of society and its rules around them. That makes these personalities and their way of thinking more nuanced and complex.  How that works differs from sign to sign and have to be explained separately for each sign. So, stay tuned until I finish all of them.

Leo is an energetic sign, that likes admiration and attention. They have uncanny ability to get the crowd and win their approval. A natural politician.

Cancer in Astrology

After Gemini comes Cancer. After all the important work is done, there is now time to relax and enjoy the summer (if you are in northern hemisphere). To help you do that, comes Cancer, sign of hospitality, care, support and good times.

Gemini, who travelled far and wide to trade, experience and learn, needed somewhere to stay and someone to care for them during their journeys. To help them came Cancer.

If Gemini concerns themselves with various highbrow subjects not everyone even gets, then Cancer is focused on things very basic yet very important to us all. We all need a good meal to eat, clean clothes to wear, a comfy bed to sleep, a shelter from elements and so on. Basic things but, without such things we will suffer and may be even die. Well, there is Capricorn who eschews creature comforts for Spartan existence, but they are an exception. Everyone else appreciates comfort and convenience.

To help us with such things there are Cancers. Cancer natives are often caring and attentive. They aim to please and often know just what to do to make everyone feel good and welcomed. They are some of the nicest and friendliest people out there.

Cancers do have darker side as well, but it only shows if you seriously offended them with something. Alas that happens more often than needs to be.

Unfortunately, nowadays Cancerian values of comfort and convenience are not in high esteem. Pluto's recent tour through the opposing sign of Capricorn is likely to blame for this. Modern society obsesses with gym and physical strength to the point of absurdity.

In such an environment Cancers would be even more prone to feeling of inadequacy that they normally are. In general Cancer is not a very self-assured sign.

However, trends do come and go. A lot of people still need care and comfort Cancers have to offer.

Many astrologers do not hold Cancer in high esteem. They call Cancers clingy, needy, overly emotional and so on. That not untrue per se, but these things are hardly as bad as some of the other traits of some other signs out there.

Cancers are very loyal and devoted. They can make good friends and especially girlfriends as Cancer is very feminine. Much like Taurus they will hate if their loyalty and trust is betrayed, but I doubt if they will be worse than Capricorn or Scorpio if that happens.

As I already mentioned, Cancer is very feminine signs. Energies of this sign is much more suitable for a female rather than a male. In this regard it is the opposite of Aries, that works much better for males than for females.

Cancer females are very feminine naturally. This trait will attract men and make their dating prospects very promising. On the flip side however, this will also attract envy from fellow females. Some of them might try to undermine a Cancer girl, which can be a problem as Cancer is rather insecure sign. Nonetheless despite of what feminism and envious women claim, Cancerian femininity is what men really want in women. Men prefer shy timid and insecure girls to someone with photo model body. So, if a female cancer can trust her instincts sufficiently enough, they can attract a lot of men. Then again it could be just me being attracted towards Cancer females, as I have moon in Cancer. I used to know one who is very small, quiet, timid and shy.

Cancer men are somewhat too feminine for a female taste. They are the type; women just cannot bring themselves to love no matter what. That will make their dating and relationship prospects some of the worst of all males in zodiac. Unless they are gay or have some other placements to compensate for that. On the other hand, Cancer men will rarely have problems interacting with fellow men, particularly when it comes to business or non-romantic friendship, most men are not gay after all. Men can trust Cancer and will enjoy doing business with them.

All sorts of hospitality work are suitable for Cancers. Hotels, restaurants, childcare even nursing is something they will likely enjoy doing. Of course, other planet placements can suggest something else instead. Unlike some more introverted signs, that prefer to not be disturbed, Cancer is more on the social side of things.

In a bigger picture of things, Cancer's overreaching role in a society is to connect people together. Cancers warm and welcoming nature attracts people to them and keep them coming back. Overtime this produces a community of sorts.

A more cynical view on that might say that they all just take advantage of Cancer's goodwill and generous nature. While that is not untrue per se. However, that is only one side of the issue.

A tree that produces fruits attracts creatures that want to eat something. A tree that produces nothing eatable attracts no one. You might call it taking advantage of the tree, but that is how life is.

People are generally selfish and self-serving. They will do something if that benefits them and not do if there is nothing to gain. Thus, while they may be taking advantage of Cancer's goodwill and hospitality, they still coming back for more.

In the end it is up to you if you would rather be alone because you do not want to share with anyone, like I do. Or you would rather let people take advantage because you want them around.

Finally, Cancer is a cardinal sign, like Aries I already described in one of my previous articles. While not exactly the most decisive and energetic signs, Cancers surprisingly can get things done if they feel they should. They can understand people and adjust themselves to make them happy and get on their good side.

Unlike Aries, which is a fire sign, Cancer is water sign. Water signs are typically people's people. They like to please and generally enjoy themselves a lot more in a company of others. Water signs tend to be well attuned to needs and desires of others. They sometimes can even guess what someone needs or wants without them saying anything. This attunement to human needs is what sets them apart from other elements.

In contrast fire signs are driven by their ego and ambitions. Earth signs are controlled by their instincts and emotions. Finally, air signs are driven by their curiosity and interests in technology, art and generally in fancy and sophisticated things.

Cancers are warm and friendly people, who know how to make people around them feel welcomed and comfortable.

Gemini in Astrology

Gemini is third and final sequence of beginning of the year stretch between the equinox and summer solstice (winter solstice in southern hemisphere). Aries begins the new year; Taurus works to build foundations, then Gemini comes to do final touches before handing it over to the next triad.

When crops sprout and grow sufficiently enough to not be in immediate danger of being eaten by rodents and birds or perish due to lack nutrients, a famer could finally take a break from the field and tend to other important issues. That was the time to travel to nearby town to buy new equipment, check on the neighbors and news, try something new and so on.

That is what Gemini's role in the zodiac and broadly speaking in society is. Gemini is a traveller, trader, journalist, writer, experimentator, engineer, early adopter, scientist even. Gemini can wear many hats, they are even depicted as two people, commonly called twins.

However, there is more to this symbolism, in most of their roles Gemini meets and interacts with other people. Other people bring news and ideas to and Geminis more than eager to hear them. In fact, so eager for new things they will seek out people to talk to and ideas to think of if there is nothing in their immediate surroundings. On a lower level this thirst for receiving and spreading information manifests in gossiping. People who gossip a lot likely have Ascendant, Mercury or Sun in Gemini.

One final part of Gemini's symbolism is that this sign is represented not by an animal, but by a human. Unlike the signs, represented by animals, signs represented by humans are more intellectual. They are further detached from instinct and emotions and trust their mind rather than emotions. They are the original inventors from whom others learn later.

Freud who claimed that ego and superego are just covers for the desires of id had Sun in Taurus. What Freud said can indeed be observed in other Tauri and to lesser extend in other signs represented by animals, but not all signs are like that, some are wired differently. I will cover other signs in their due time.

Gemini here is one who builds human civilization on top of the foundations laid by Taurus. To that end Gemini practices all the things that set humans apart from the animals. Doing these things, advance humanity to a new higher level of life.

Much unlike Taurus, Gemini could not stand status quo. Tradition means nothing to them and most of them cannot wait to throw old into trash for something newer and better. A balanced placement between these two signs can sometimes produce a measured attitude to both tradition and innovation.

Gemini is a typical early adopter of various technological innovation. Tech generally fascinates them, and they will never tire of endless kaleidoscope of innovation.

As much as they like to try new things, they also like to spread word of their experience, both to get more people try it but also to describe their experience using the thing. That will make them good reviewers. For example, very popular reviewer, Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw is Gemini. You might even call him a typical representative of this sign.

Broadly speaking Gemini like all sorts of new experiences. They will try near anything at least once, just to know how it feels or works.

Gemini gets a lot of bad rep from many other astrologers. Geminis are called liars, fake, fickle and what not. Envy perhaps. Almost make me doubt if I should write about my own sign, Libra, to avoid full envy-geddon.

That said these accusations are not completely without grounds. Loyalty and dedication are not Gemini's strong points, if they get bored, they will move on and leave other hanging. Emotional intelligence is also alien to them, they say what they want to say no matter if that offends someone. Freedom of speech is their thing. All that can sometimes be mitigated by other planet placements: earth signs placements can give more loyalty and water sign placements will give emotional intelligence instead.

One should remember that while Gemini does have great intellectual ability, they can put it to both benign and evil use. They are the main targets for moralists to offer their moral compasses to. They are however not too vindicative to worry too much about their revenge. It is more trouble if they decide to cause problems out of boredom or because something you have piques their curiosity.

Workwise Geminis had a reasonable selection of areas that they can be happy with. Unfortunately for them, many of these gradually became more and more stall and bureaucratized for their liking.

Historically Gemini were traders. Travelling between different countries to visit markets with wildly different goods is something Gemini will enjoy. Modern trade however is far more prosaic with its endless paperwork and standards to uphold; so, it is more in the Virgo area of expertise.

Gemini can be engineer or a scientist too. Originally these professions were all about experiments and trying new things. Nowadays official veneer, paperwork and politics made these less appealing to inquisitive Geminis, but some roles in these areas still allow for curiosity to flourish.

There is also journalism and writing, Gemini Ernst Hemingway was both journalist and writer and managed to reach acclaim at both of these professions.

Finally, Gemini can enjoy something that involves travel. Unlike Aries they do not have to explore something previously undiscovered by humans. Geminis will be happy if the place is enjoyable and fun.

When it comes to dating, Gemini rarely have serious problems. They are not the most sought-after people, but more often than not will be able to figure out how to get someone they like. If that fails, they likely be able to move on without serious issues.

Generally, Gemini is masculine sign, but because its mutable, it works for women too. In terms of gender parity, it is one of the most equal signs.

In context of the broader astrological structures Gemini is last of the opening triad and has the last possible modality, mutable. The following Cancer is cardinal, like Aries.

Gemini is mutable. Mutable means it goes with the flow and let trends and experiences control them. Unlike fixed signs, that deeply rooted in their own views and way of doing things or cardinal that focused on their objectives and ambitions, mutable signs are more relaxed and flexible. They do not have clear destination in mind and let others drive events as they enjoy the ride. That said Gemini can easily hop off or switch vehicles if they do not enjoy the ride.

In context of relation between signs, mutable marks end of an era or a phase. Mutable signs pave way for a change in the next phase. Being last of three, Gemini paves the way for the next phase of life that will begin with solstice when Sun enters Cancer.

Gemini is also an Air sign, a quality it shares with Libra and Aquarius. Air signs are all represented by people or inanimate objects. They share common intellectualism and detachment from instinct and emotions. They like abstract ideas and technology.

Gemini is curious and creative sign that likes new things, technology and fresh experiences. They communicate ideas, make plans and engineer better life for all of us. Gemini can elevate humanity to higher levels of development or just keep you entertain with a conversation, providing you can follow their train of thoughts that is.

Taurus in Astrology

After the Aries comes Taurus, both calendry (when Sun leaves Aries around 22 of April it enters Taurus) and substantially. Taurus is both a natural follow up to an Aries and a sign almost completely different from it. Every new sign emerges as both a successor and at the same time a rejection of ways of its predecessor. That is why it is best to read about signs in a sequence in which Sun traverses from one to another.

Astrological signs are not like a random sequence of stars in any given constellation with no apparent connection to each other. Instead, they are part of cohesive and coherent system, each connected to each other, like pillars and other elements of a story bridge. Yet each pillar has its own characteristics and properties that define its role in the structure.

After plowing the new fields and planting seeds of a future harvests comes time when one nurtures nascent spouts, waters them, fertilises them and protects them from animals and bugs. A routine and tedious work that is nonetheless needed for crops to grow for a harvest time. This is Taurus role in astrology.

If Aries is a beginner, then Taurus is a follower. If Aries dislikes routine than Taurus cannot live without it. Taurus likes clear and predictable rules, that ideally come from times immemorial. Taurus also likes schedules, not as much as Virgo but still does. "Work begins at 9, ends at 5 and salary is measured in per hour pay." is something a Taurus will say. Taurus will be most content with this traditional system rather than with something different.

Not as much as Aries, Taurus nonetheless has a lot of energy to work for their goals in life and due to their acceptance of routine might even accomplish more than the ram.

On the other hand, Taurus tend to dislike change and often finds it hard to adopt to changes and be flexible. Taurus is a person of habit. Politically Taurus tends to defend the status quo and existing institution. In workplace they resist change and insist on doings things like they always done them.

That said, as I mentioned in Aries article, our society has a lot of well-established industries and economic sectors with age old, routines and rules. Because of that Taurus will have no shortage of places where they can find successful employment that values their love for routines and no change.

Taurus is traditionalist in other aspects of live too. They typically like old things with character and tradition to them. They also often like religion and either devote Christian or some kind of alternatively spiritual: Buddhist (of new age type, rather than traditional), wiccan, druidist or something of that sort with nature worship. Finally, they like nature and natural things as well, organic food, trees, animals, grass and so on.

That said while Taurus is conservative it is not reactionary and does not fall into extremes that Capricors and Pisces sometimes drift into. To make an example Taurus will not invent new fashions like Gemini or Aquarius but also will not wear "vintage" things that fell out of fashion in 50s. As always clothes and outward appearance is domain of Venus and people with Sun in Taurus but Venus in other sign will have different tastes in clothes, meanwhile people with other Sun placements but with Venus in Taurus will have this instead.

Taurus is traditional when it comes to relationship too. Most of them, both men and women, will want to buy a home, marry and have kids. They are family orientated and prioritise it to other aspects of their lives. They are also very big on commitment and would only divorce in exceptional circumstances. That commitment focus also means that they do not take infidelity lightly. They do not cheat and will not forgive partner for cheating on them.

Taurus is also one of the most pro-natalist of signs. Many of them even see making babies as the most important thing in life. This is one of the things that make Taurus stand out compared to other signs who have other priorities.

When it comes to dating, both males and females have average luck (somewhat below average for men) with that. They are not the most sought-after types, so there will be rejections and people they will not get no matter what they do. Taurus of neither gender should expect male Aries level of popularity. However, there are those who look for a traditional relationship and will find it with a Taurus. That said Taurus tend to seek relationships early and want them now. not later, so they will feel it's really bad for them.

Finally, a little bit of context of how Taurus fits within astrological structures.

Taurus is an earth sign. That means it is a lot more in touch with their instinctual drives that with abstract ideas. Air or fire signs do enjoy abstract ideas, but earth signs like it physical instead.

Finally, Taurus is fixed sign. Unlike cardinal Aries who will adapt to seize an opportunity, Taurus would much rather stick to familiar. Taurus is a much more stereotypical example of fixed sign energy, however not every fixed sign is conservative. For example, Aquarius is also fixed sign. White Aquarius is known for its innovativeness and willingness to take down status quo, Aquarius nonetheless shows its fixed nature in how unwilling they are to listen to any critics of their views. They implement what they see right, disregarding any and all objections. For an example, see how much FDR listened to those who used to say his New Deal is basically socialism that destroying America. I would imagine that Taurus and Aquarius would be each other biggest enemies of all zodiacs.

Broadly speaking Taurus is a normie of the zodiac. Of all signs, they are closest to what society considers normal and government and business encourages. Because of that Taurus rarely has major problems with society. If they ever have problems, it's in dating sphere.

Some might call Taurus boring for that. That is not always untrue. To compensate for that, Taurus has more reliability and staying power than many of the more interesting signs, that I will cover in separate articles.

Taurus is a person who knows and accepts their place in the ranks. Bovine, unlike rams, do not fight each other for control over the herd. Unlike say Aries, Taurus will not grow weary and restless if they could not cease leadership after 3 months in organisation. Taurus is patient and willing to wait for their time and their promotion, working their way up. Tauri are building blocks of society.

I personally do not have any planets in Taurus, so I cannot talk from my personal experience. However, because of it my article on Taurus could be both impartial and accurate.

Aries in Astrology

After a couple of month break from writing about astrology it is time to get back to the topic and write about signs. There are a lot of information about signs due to prevalence of zodiac columns in various newspapers and such. Some of it is somewhat accurate, some not so much. the biggest issue however is that it is oversimplified. Not only it only covers Sun placements, but even these it reduces to a few tongue in cheek stereotypes. Here I will give more detailed information and put it in the context of other components that make up astrological analysis. I will begin with the first sign of the zodiac, Aries.

Sun is in Aries from around 22 of March to 22 of April. Aries begins from the time of spring (autumn in southern hemisphere) equinox and lasts for 1/12 of the year. In older calendars, such as Babylonian, Egyptian or Persian new year begun after spring equinox. This was not only time for celebrations but also time to start new agricultural season. Winter was over and it was possible to start growing crops again. It was time to break the earth, plow to soften it and prepare it for planting. This gives us the idea of what kind of person someone with Aries placements is.

Aries is a beginner of new things. There are other signs who prefer predictable routine and follow stable rules. Aries is not one of them. Aries likes to chart their own way, make their own rules. They are easily bored with a routine. On the other hand, they have a lot of energy and creativity to work on something they are interested in.

Broadly speaking, Aries is doer and achiever. Qualities that are often valued in business. However Aries experience in a society can be mixed bag. A lot of aspects of life are fully routinised and regulated, there is no room to improvise and invent. Something that will make average Aries feel stiffened. On the other hand, in a startup or an industry that rewards originality and independent thinking, Aries can strive.

Aries does need room for manoeuvre, resources and authority to achieve great things. Without these things Aries natives will sulk, brood and will eventually manifest worst of their qualities. They will become combative and disagreeable as they will seek way to assert their will and authority. They are normally energetic but can become lazy if their ambitions remain unfulfilled.

Aries have leadership aspirations too. Going for too long without promotion can get them restless and bring some of their worst qualities. They are goal orientated leaders to pursue objectives and just expect everyone else to follow after them. They are not per se indifferent to problems or hardships among their subordinates, but rather ignorant of it. They can offer help or rest if asked for it.

Aries is competitive too. Real life rams are unwilling to share females with other males of their species. They fight until one of them wins and drives all his rivals away, monopolizing all the females. It is unsure what a single ram will do with all these ewes, but they sure do not let any male rivals get any close to them.

It is likely a person with Aries placements, that coined the phrase: "born too late to explore the earth and too early to explore planets". Aries have desire to explore new things. Just visiting places already discovered by other explorers is not as exiting. It is more interesting to discover a new continent like Columbus and name it after themselves. Aries definitely has enough ego to name a continent or a galaxy after himself or his girlfriend.

Aries do like to put their name of mark on things, similar to how Donald Trump writes his surname in large letters.

Good example of Aries energy is Richie Blackmore, a former guitarist of Deep Purple who later went to form other bands and play different kinds of music. As time went on, fellow members of Deep Purple found it hard to work with him and felt relieved when he quit the band. However, Blackmore had reasons to quit as he was not content with just Deep Purple level of popularity and wished to become even bigger and more popular. He wanted to eclipse all other musicians, not be just one of them.

In his pursuit of this ambition, he created Blackmore's Night and created wonderful music that much eclipsed his work with Deep Purple even if it did not make him more popular than Michal Jackson or Britney Spears. This unwillingness to be anything other than first is the most Aries trait out there. Blackmore is still out there, aiming for the pinnacle while his former colleagues occasionally reunite to play old songs for old fans.

Aries is one of the more normal or typical signs when it comes to personality traits. Most fiction protagonists are de-facto Aries (exhibit many of Aries qualities). Aries is a very protagonist like personality.

Women love them and men want to be like them, that is about Aries. A male Aries will typically have no problem attracting women. If you ask them how to "ask girl out" they will answer open the door and say, "get out, you are bothering me". Other signs have problems with women, not Aries. Despite their popularity with women, some male Aries can manage to no be an asshole and have male friends too. Yet others will instead be lone wolf players.

Female Aries are not so lucky, however. This sign is very masculine, making it hard for Aries females to attract men. They however can have a lot of respect from fellow females, who would gravitate towards their masculine energy.

All these qualities are particularly strong in Sun in Aries natives. However certain other placements in this sign, such as Jupiter, Mercury or Mars, can give you some of these qualities without many drawbacks.

Moon in Aries can mean desire to partner or be friends with someone with Aries quality or just a wanderlust and love for extreme and wild things.

Mercury in Aries talks straight to the point without any concern for sensitivities and feelings.

Venus in Aries may prefer comfortable and practical, but flashy and standoffish clothes. They will want something that shows others they are big deal and important.

Mars in Aries prefers action to words and would like sports or some physical activity. They may make good soldiers or butchers.

Jupiter in Aries is like Sun in Aries light. I myself have this placement.

Saturn in Aries can lead towards taking ambition very seriously and be hellbent on getting ahead.

Broadly speaking Aries is one of the more normal signs, weirder ones come closer to an end of the zodiac. Aries are energetic go-getters who can get things done and, with opportunity and luck on their side, achieve big things. It is a very masculine sign, making male Aries lives much easier than those of female ones.

Immune Coeli (Nadir) and Medium Coeli (Midheaven) in Astrology

It took me a while to finally write this article. In part it was due to recent several weeks were busy with various things like elections and holidays. However, there was also an issue of not getting ideas right. As I was planning this article in my head, I felt it was lacking. I thought of many good ideas for my future series about Astrological Signs, but this one somehow hit a writer's block and was not moving anywhere. Yet I did not want to do signs first and leave this one for later. Ascendant and Descendant needed two final cardinal angles to complete the structure of the Natal chart.

Ascendant and Descendant are the horizontal axis, the line in the middle of the chart, that divides it into upper and lower half. I covered each of them in separate articles. Ascendant is the left point, and Descendant is the right one. There is one other slightly lopsided vertical line that further divides the chart into left and right parts. Together these two lines divide the chart into four quarters or two distinct sets of pairs of halves. Vertical line divides Ascendant side of the chart from descendant one. At the same time horizontal line divides inner hidden world of Immune Coeli from the outer visible world of Midheaven. What these sides mean I will cover in a separate article, when I will start writing about houses.

Medium Coeli is one of the most overrated things in astrology. People often associate it with career or success. They want to know what they or their children will achieve in life and how successful they will be. In actuality Medium Coeli plays much smaller role in success then it gets credit for. Midheaven is even more outer layer of personality than even mask of the Ascendant. If Ascendant is what people assume when they actually get to see you or talk to you a little bit, then Midheaven is what they heard about you from other sources and now think about you.

Most of us will not get to meet any celebrities or politicians in person, but we hear from news and magazines what kind of people they are. More often than not this information is simply fabricated for amusement of the reader and has nothing to do with what a person really is. It's the same on personal level, people just assume things about those they do not know personally and then tell others like it's a real fact. Rumors about you or anyone leave their own, independent from your life and amuse people around you. To get even to the ascendant, one has to talk to you at least a little bit. A lot of people however will have an opinion about you without ever talking to you.

Sure, there is certain pleasing vanity in thinking that people talk about you, but that has little effect on what your actual life around you are like. In certain ways Midheaven have more to do with what people will think of you once your life is over, then with what happens during the life. It is akin to a post-mortem that sometimes gets written on the tombstone. One may say generic pleasantries the person was great father and good husband. Other mention some achievements like won Olympic medals or was great physicist. Other yet will say nothing and be forgotten.

Midheaven is tip of the iceberg that is you, Ascendant is front side of the water line, Descendant is back of the waterline. Most of the iceberg however is below the water line and its bottom most point is Immune Coeli or Nadir, a very important part that remains hidden from sight. Now I will pour some light on it.

To begin with I would like to point out that Nadir is not one's true self. That is Sun and Moon. Nonetheless Nadir is by far the most important of all the angles, including Ascendant.

Nadir is hidden foundation of your outer persona as well as outer layers of your life. If Ascendant is a mask, that one forged to protect themselves from reality, then Immune Coeli is the forge where that mask was created. If Ascendant is One Ring, then Immune Coeli is Mount Doom where it was forged.

Deep below at bottom most point (hence name Nadir) may lie the demons that scarred your soul and made you cynical and jaded. However, instead of demons, there could also be wholesome support that nurtured you towards success. Whether you receive nurture or psychological trauma depends on placement of Immune Coeli: you are in luck if its nurturing Cancer, or wise Libra, in trouble if its toxic Scorpio or harsh Capricorn.

Unfortunately, I cannot bring you a good example, as my Immune Coeli is in Scorpio and there is also Saturn in 4th house. A doom combination. Just to give you an example of what I had to go through. Despite my parents having a lot of money to afford luxury, much less enough food, my childhood was actually characterized by malnutrition. My parents were obsessed with health as well as "healthy eating", mom believed that even ketchup is bad for health, a lot of food was banned or severely limited. To top it all up, despite not working, my mom was too lazy to cook every day and often relied on cooking for a week and then reheating that food in microwave as it needed.

They also had weird "ethical code", that they cited to impose a lot of restrictions on what I could do. My childhood was characterized by fighting against these restrictions or finding and exploiting ways to bypass them.

In general family I grew up in, was very toxic environment. Constant arguments, accusations, criticism, demands - spiders or scorpions in a jar. Parents blamed each other and me for everything. That toxicity however was hidden from outsiders' eyes, parents always made sure to not do it on public or at least pull me away where other cannot hear, before criticizing.

My parents' fondness for nature and old things, made them by a 19th century house in the middle of a swamp and spend "vacations" there, taking us with them. There was no running water or sewage. Toilet was a wooder box over the pit of shit, that stink like no tomorrow.

Best and most nurturing things in my life came not from parents but from relatives and friends, both mine and theirs. Parents' friends enjoyed spending on luxury and fine things in life, took vacations in proper resorts; my parents and I will join them, and these were best moments of my childhood. To fit their friends' cycle, my parents moderated their insane ascetic ways, at least when they are around. Alas later in life they somehow broke contact with them and took away the things I liked most.

Later in my teens, my own friends will help me with dodging some of my parents as well as school rules to have fun and be free. When I needed money, some of my friends just give me some; my mom instead asked me "why have I became beggar". Outside help is much more valuable than a family like that.

Immune Coeli and Medium Coeli are part of the same axis, one always opposite another. That means your success or lack of thereof is dependent on upbringings and nurture you received in life. Thus, if you fail in life, it's only natural to blame parents for lack of nurture and support.

Any house needs an underground foundation to withstand winds. Even tents are held in place with wedges driven into ground. Giant skyscrapers need solid underground foundation to avoid falling down. The bigger the skyscraper, the larger foundation should be, not smaller.

Plants, need water, fertile soil and fertilizer to grow. The more sophisticated the plant is the more care and nutrients it needs to grow. Orange tree will not grow on cold barren soil, only weed will. It's the same with animals, lions and tigers need a lot of meat. Only rats and cockroaches survive on leftovers.

Yet when it comes to humans, this commonsense answer is somehow forgotten, and we instead get some useless mumbo-jumbo like "hard work" or "sacrifice". All too often people expect some "great results" from nothing more than, nagging, preaching, lecturing and "toughness". Various Hymns of Tiger Moms or Dr Spoke book my parents had, preach toughness and austerity as route to success. I say for every "success" such approach could generate; it will create at least a dozen of Columbine style massacres and tens of thousands of suicides. However, these deaths will not be traced back or blamed on harsh parenting, while any off-chance success will likely be attributed to this method even if it was not the reason. Ban Battle Hymn of Tiger Mom before more people die.

Facts are there are many suicides in Japan and the rest of Asia, massacres and suicides only increased since publishing of Battle Hymn of Tiger Mom and Financial Crisis of 2008 made it worse. Facts clearly show that hardships cause not success but, death, murders, suicides and the like. Yet "hard work" zealots will not shut up.

I can also add some from my own experience. My parents liked to talk about value of hard work while themselves doing nothing and often when they themselves were sitting in a chair with legs on the table. I grew up twitting on X on how government not doing enough to implement UBI. The upbringing experience does reflect on the future life in such a way.

At the same time, I went to oppose and refute my parents' views on nature, women and number of many other things. On many things I do the opposite of what they told me. Midheaven is opposite of Nadir and in certain ways aims to compensate for that.

There is another meaning to Immune Coeli, that does not point towards the past. Immune Coeli points towards things that can nurture you in your life. Immune Coeli and 4th house is associated with home, in a sense that it's a place where you can retreat to relax and recuperate from troubles of your life. Such a place is essential for your continued wellbeing and survival.

That said it's your Moon that indicates what you find nurturing and supportive. Immune Coeli only points out where you can find such qualities in real life.

If your childhood and parents were nurturing and supportive enough, then it is simple enough to interpret it this way. Simply do what they did, and you will get better. You can even come back to them and get them help you.

If, however, your parents were like mine, then coping them or coming back to them will only make things worse. Instead, you should look for bits and pieces of your past, that actually made you happy back then and try to get something similar in your adult life to support you.

Medium Coeli is tip of the iceberg or one's outer personality, Immune Coeli is its bottom most part and a foundation. It is Immune Coeli that determines one's prospects in life through the nurture and support that one gets or does not get from the world around them. Medium Coeli is merely a spire or filial, sometimes with a flag, that tops the complex structure, it's what people notice, but it has little importance in the structure.

Descendant in Astrology

Descendant is one of the most underrated things in astrology. The opposite end of ascendant-descendant axis ought to be as important as its eastern end. However, ascendant is often called one of the big three and descendant hardly ever mentioned. Professional astrologers do admit descendant has role information of ascendant and more, but instead of elaborating on it, just move on.

If ascendant is how others see you, then descendant is how you see others.

Sure, other people have their own ascendants and natal chart that reflect who they are. However, these matter for them in their own internal world, and we often just oversimplify them into a few stereotypes. Other people are many and we often do not have time or desire to bother with getting to know most of them. Thus, we tend to oversimplify and stereotype, often subsuming others to a few simple stereotypes.

It works in reverse too, you are a complex human being with great ideas, knowledge and such, but other people just assume you to be another Pisces just because their descendant is in Pisces and they see everyone as just another Pisces. Yes, people are that shallow.

Descendant is how we see other people collectively and what we assume them to be when we fill the gaps in what we know about them. Just like ascendant, descendant is formed in early childhood. However, unlike ascendant, descendant is mostly based on personal observation of family members, relatives, friends, classmates and other people one had contact in early childhood and teenage. Behavior of these people will gradually be subsumed into a set of stereotypes. Later in life one will extrapolate these stereotypes on other people they will meet over the course of life. This extrapolation is just as reflexive and product of habit as habits and traits of the ascendant, often made subconsciously and without clear awareness.

Placement of the descendant shows, what stereotypes about others one tends to assume. Just like ascendant's placement reflect the type of upbringing one had in the childhood.

Ascendant and Descendant form an axis together, that means Descendant will always be in the opposite sign from the ascendant. Many of the ascendant qualities would be the opposite to that of descendant. That is because Ascendant is formed to both protect from qualities of descendant as well as to compensate for its shortcomings.

In many ways descendant limits what you can notice about the world. Human mind better responds to things it can understand while ignoring things that we cannot easily understand. Descendant will over and over pull you towards people with qualities of the sign it is pointing at.

That by no means guarantee you will be able to get along with these people and your involvement with them will be beneficial to you. Just like with ascendant, superficial first impression more often than not misleads rather than confuses. It can signify initial attraction or interest, but fundamentally its Sun and Moon that determine who you can really get along with. Unless Descendant makes good aspects to either Sun or Moon, one should not assume, the initial attraction will guarantee good relationship.

That is not all, descendant can also limit what you can reach in the outside world. By limiting your view of other people to its traits, descendant can prevent you from noticing someone who can be very beneficial to you, but whom you are unable to notice and understand due to limitations of your descendant. Descendant makes you oblivious to many alternative ways of life that are too different from what you got used in childhood.

That makes fighting against limitations of descendant as important as to limitations of ascendant. Transcending the limited worldview, left behind by parents and educators, could be one's ticket to success in life.

Descendant is a set of stereotypes through which one see outside world and other people. Be it rose colored glasses or gray colored glasses; it distorts and limits your and other people's view on reality.
